Google is in fine form this April 1

It’s April 1 so the silliness is in full force. I decided to take a break from the end-of-term writing marathon and see what Google has to offer. It’s not all as clever as some of their past jokes, but still amusing (or simply a much-needed diversion).

1. Youtube is closing! That’s right, after eight years they’re closing the site to submissions and will now work feverishly to name the winner of the best video contest.

2. Was that Easter egg hunt unsatisfactory? Have no fear. Google Maps introduces Treasure Mode. Just remember to “Beaware of pirates!”

3. By “intersecting photons with infrasound waves” Google opens up a world of searchable smells with Google Nose. Because smelling is believing.

4. Gmail is going blue.

5. Some sites are getting visitors from out of this world. Seems those with Google Analytics are getting hits from the International Space Station.

5. The Levity App makes everything fun. Perhaps I should run today’s Arctic sovereignty/security presentation through this one.
